Man charged after six-hour armed standoff with police in Evesham

A man is facing charges after an hours-long armed standoff in the Marlton section of Evesham Township.

Evesham police say officers were called to a home on Brookfield Avenue just before 2:30 a.m. Monday for an argument. They say a person inside the home was armed with a firearm.

Officials say when officers arrived at the home, 56-year-old John Fox began shooting inside and outside the home. The officers did not return fire.

Police say Fox then barricaded himself inside the home. As a precaution, a shelter was set up for neighbors while officials surrounded the house.

Evesham police say Fox surrendered after six hours and was taken into custody. The shelter-in-place order was subsequently lifted.

Officials say they found multiple firearms in the home. Fox was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault and criminal mischief.

No one was injured during the incident, but police say some homes were hit by bullets.

Any homeowner who discovers their home has been affected is urged to contact Evesham Police at 856-983-1116.
