Jaya Bhattacharya REVEALS why she didn’t work for seven years: I started questioning myself…

Actress Jaya Bhattacharya needs no introduction. From films like Devdas to Mimi, and TV shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Thapki Pyaar Ki, the veteran actress has proven her mettle and carved a significant place for herself in the Indian entertainment industry. Now she is ready for it. to enthrall the audience with a new character in Sun Neo’s recently launched show Chhathi Maiyya ki Bitiya, Jaya portrays the role of Urmila, the stepmother of the male lead Kartik (played by Aashish Dixit’s character). Known for her portrayal of antagonistic roles on TV, the actress recently revealed why she chose to take a break from work for seven years.

Jaya Bhattacharya shared, “I feel like the word ‘Negative’ is written on my forehead. So far in my career I have been given more negative roles. When the first negative character I played and became famous, Payal from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, people thought I couldn’t play other roles. For this reason I didn’t work for 7 years. I started to doubt my talent, I started to ask myself if I am an actor or not? Don’t people feel like I can play other roles? That’s why I decided not to work for 7 years. I didn’t just want to play negative characters, I wanted to play diverse roles and portray a complete character that makes an artist feel happy and satisfied. When similar roles are offered, the artist becomes bored because there is nothing to apply for. If there are no different characters, you need to give the artist the opportunity to experiment in the negative roles. Thus, Gulshan Grover brings different tastes and flavors to his roles. Only when variation is offered will the character become known and given a place among the audience.”

She added, “If the same is replicated, if there is no freshness in the character and he is expected to play a similar character with similar style and traits, how long will the actor be able to justify his characters? Eventually they’ll get bored, right? Artists must be given the food to satisfy their hunger to always put their best foot forward. There should be some differences in the characters they play on screen, only then will we be satisfied and be able to justify our role, and feel happy that we gave our best. I am happy that I have a good character in Sun Neo’s Chhathi Maiyya ki Bitiya.”

Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya is a heartfelt family drama that follows Vaishnavi (played by Brinda Dahal), an orphan who reveres Chhathi Maiyya (played by Devoleena Bhattacharjee) as her mother. It marks the first portrayal of revered goddess Hhathi Maiyya on Hindi television, widely known in Bihar and UP. The show celebrates the victory of good over evil, emphasizing faith and devotion to Chhathi Maiyya, who protects and guides her worshipers through life. Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya, starring Devoleena Bhattacharjee, Sara Khan, Jaya Bhattacharya, Vrinda Dahal and Aashish Dixit, airs every Monday to Saturday at 7 PM on Sun Neo.
