Warren police are investigating a near-drowning on Monday involving a 9-year-old boy, who is in critical but stable condition at an area hospital, according to a news release.

The incident took place around 5:55 p.m

Warren police and firefighters were called to an apartment complex in the 14800 block of E. 12 Mile Road for a drowning. The responding officers went to the pool where they found family members actively resuscitating the child. According to police, he was rescued after being underwater for several minutes.

Police immediately checked the child and confirmed that he was breathing on his own. When the Warren Fire Department arrived, they took over medical care. The boy was treated and transported by ambulance, accompanied by police, to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Warren Police Chief Charles Rushton was also on scene, which remains an open and active investigation that will include interviews with the child’s parents and other family members.

No names or further information have been released at this time.
