Odisha: 10-year-old boy drowns in open drain;  CM announces Rs 4 lakh relief

Bhubaneswar, June 18 In a tragic incident, a 10-year-old boy drowned after falling into an open stormwater drain in Masjid Colony area here, an official said on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Abu Bakar Saha.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident and announced Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia for the bereaved families.

He also condoled with the family members of the deceased.

CM Majhi has directed the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to address the problems of open drains in the city.

Sources claim that the deceased was playing near the drain with his friends on Tuesday afternoon when they saw a balloon floating in the storm water.

Saha was washed away trying to catch that balloon.

After being notified, the fire brigade arrived on the scene and started a search.

The body was later recovered a few hours later from Laxmisagar area of ​​the city.
