3 Arkadelphia board chairs are up for grabs

Three seats on the City of Arkadelphia Board of Directors are up for re-election in 2024.

City directors run as nonpartisan candidates and serve four-year terms. The Arkadelphia city council consists of seven members, two of whom serve in a general capacity and five represent one of the city’s five districts.

The three positions currently up for election are 2, 3 and 5 – now represented by Chris Porter, Keith Crews and Jason Johnson respectively.

Ward 2 includes an area generally south of West Pine Street and Walnut Street, as well as Magnolia Estates.

Ward 3 includes neighborhoods generally between North 15th and North 10th Streets.

Ward 5 consists of neighborhoods generally located north of West Pine Street, as well as residential neighborhoods along North Park, Druid Hills, Millcreek Drive and south of Country Club Road.

Candidates must be 21 years or older, a registered voter and reside in their precinct for 30 days. There is no financial compensation for city administrators.

To qualify as a candidate, one must collect and submit at least 50 valid signatures from registered voters living in their district and submit various completed forms to the city clerk between July 31 and August 7, 2024. More information about these forms is available from the City Clerk’s Office, located upstairs in Arkadelphia City Hall, 700 Clay St.

The municipal elections will be included in the general election on November 5. The terms begin on January 1, 2025 and expire on December 31, 2028.
