In Tuesday’s runoff election, James Thrallkill defeated incumbent Ellis Cadenhead for the Republican nomination for Troup County Commissioner for District 2.

Thrailkill won by a resounding margin, earning 1,318 (65.90%) votes to Cadenhead’s 682 (34.1%). The results are not official, but all precincts have reported, including early voting and mail-in results.

Thrailkill was happy with the results, but even happier that the primary race was over.

“I’m glad it’s over. It was an experience. I’ve never experienced anything like this before. I just put my trust in the people and it went the way it went. I am very grateful for my support, all the people who helped me and all the people who voted for me,” said Thrailkill.

With the Republican nomination in hand, Thrailkill will face Democratic candidate Andrew Moody for the seat in November.

Cadenhead took a close look at the results and joked that he might have ‘won by losing’.

“It was a great race,” he said, thanking his supporters, including those who helped elect him to two terms as commissioner.
