East Lyme LL baseball (ages 10-12) captures Section 3 title

West Hartford — Rocco Russo and Blake Gianakos each had three hits for East Lyme Little League in an 11-0 win Thursday over West Hartford to capture the Connecticut Section 3 baseball championship (ages 10-12), sending East Lyme to the Final Four that begins Tuesday in Shelton.

East Lyme took revenge for a 3-2 loss to West Hartford earlier in the tournament.

Russo had four RBI and Jonathan Menchaca homered for East Lyme, which scored three runs in the fifth to end the game after five innings. Alexander Biscotto threw a complete game, allowing one hit, striking out eight and walking one.

East Lyme opened the tournament with a 7-0 win over Madison, powered by three hits from Biscotto, who allowed one hit in four innings, striking out nine and walking two. Brayden Santos added a triple and three RBI.

The District 10 champion, 9-1 so far in the postseason, East Lyme lost a 3-2 decision to West Hartford with both runs scored in the first inning. Menchaca homered and Biscotto added a triple.

West Hartford then defeated Madison 9-8 to advance to the finals, where they faced East Lyme.

East Lyme will next play South Windsor in Game 1 of the Final Four at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Stamford National and Wallingford are also in the mix. The Final Four championship game will be played at 11 a.m. July 27, with a second game on July 28 if needed.

FCBL

• The Norwich Sea Unicorns have seven players competing in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game, which begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Dodd Stadium. Sea Unicorns manager Kevin Murphy will manage Team Rose City, which will take on Team Three Rivers.

The Sea Unicorns are represented by AJ Soldra (OF), Nick Tomasetto (3B/2B), Jimmy Mulvaney (P), Gavin Hawkes (P), Gio Conte (P), Christian Stratis (3B/OF/Util.) and Liam Carroll (P).

American Legion

• Dylan Matis allowed two hits in seven innings, struck out nine and walked none as Waterford baseball defeated American Legion Tri-Town 3-0 on Thursday. Waterford (21-1) scored two runs in the third on a sacrifice fly by Alex Dreyfus and a double by Brian Ingraham.

On Wednesday, John Bureau’s sacrifice fly in the seventh inning gave Waterford a 4-3 victory over Norwich. Trailing 3-1, Waterford got RBI in the inning from Matt Shampine, AJ Montejano and Bureau. Dreyfus had two hits and Ethan Chavez was the winning pitcher. Owen Luty, Derek Macy and Yeremi Garcia had RBI for Norwich.
