DoorDash and Wing launch drone delivery service in 26 eastern Melbourne suburbs

A new delivery service now allows residents in more than two dozen Melbourne suburbs to order food, drinks and other items via drone.

DoorDash has partnered with Wing, Australia’s first drone delivery service, and is based in the Eastland shopping centre in Melbourne’s east.

The service can deliver food, drinks including coffee, and small household items and launched on Thursday in 26 suburbs in Melbourne’s east.

Customers can place an order through the DoorDash app and have the option to have their order delivered by drone at checkout.

The order is then packaged, attached to the drone with an extendable wire, and delivered to the customer’s door.

The launch of the delivery drones in Victoria follows success in south-east Queensland over the past five years, with flights from Logan, Brisbane and Springfield/Ipswich.
