Microsoft outage causes dozens of flight delays – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

“This is horrible,” said Becky Davis as she waited her turn at the American Airlines counter at DFW Airport.

Davis decided to leave the secure area of the airport to book another flight himself.

“We were delayed three hours in Savannah and now we missed our flight to Idaho Falls. Customer service is three hours late and the wait time on the phone is eight hours. So I decided to leave the airport and go to the ticket office to try to get around this delay,” she said with a smile.

While North Texas carriers American and Southwest Airlines (departing from Dallas Love Field) reported resuming normal flights by mid-morning, many travelers were impacted throughout the day.

Airlines lost access to check-in and booking services during the major outage at Microsoft linked to cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike.

Davis’ gamble paid off. She managed to book a later flight tonight.

“Better late than never,” she said as she prepared to go through security for the second time.

Flight Aware’s ‘Misery Map’ shows the worst delays have occurred in Atlanta, Houston, New York and DC

Trenice Byers is on her way to a friend’s wedding in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

She is one of the passengers who appears to be unaffected by the power outage that affected several family members in Louisiana.

“You can’t help it, so with the grace that God gives us, you have to give grace to everybody and just try to stay calm and be present. That’s what I’m doing,” she said.

The U.S. Department of Transportation refers affected passengers to flightrights.gov to find out which airlines will reimburse meals and hotel stays and offer free rebookings.
