MEDIA ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT KING’S INSTALLATION STARTS AS LONG AS 6 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 (Bernama) – Media representatives gathered at Istana Negara as early as 6am today to highlight the events leading up to the installation of Sultan Ibrahim of Johor as the 17th King of Malaysia.

Several local and international authorities were eager to report on the highly symbolic ceremony, which takes place only once every five years.

Although they were only outside the main gate of Istana Negara, the media personnel adhered to the dress code. Male reporters were neatly dressed in traditional black Baju Melayu attire, complete with a tanjak, sampin, bengkung and a keris around the waist.

Female media personnel looked elegant in baju kurung and selendang.

The weather was fine this morning, as forecast by the Malaysian Meteorological Department yesterday.

The main entrance of Istana Negara was heavily guarded by security forces, including the Royal Malaysian Police and the Malaysian Armed Forces, in preparation for the arrival of Malaysian rulers and dignitaries for the ceremony.

Sultan Ibrahim took the oath as the 17th King of Malaysia on January 31.
