Hot Takes on McCain, Holland, Top Stars of Day 8 Results

While several top players, such as Zaccharie Risacher and Stephon Castle, were unable to play on Friday for various reasons, other promising rookies, such as Jared McCain and Ron Holland II, showed their qualities on Day 8 of the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

The end of the Summer League is just around the corner, so the newcomers are hoping to impress fans in the coming days.

Following Friday’s action, here’s a rundown of the results and a summary of some notable performances.

Results day 8

New York Knicks 91, Detroit Pistons 90

Chicago Bulls 103, Atlanta Hawks 99

Dallas Mavericks 101, Boston Celtics 90

Phoenix Suns 115, Milwaukee Bucks 90

Philadelphia 76ers 96, San Antonio Spurs 80

Ron Holland II continues to show promise for Detroit

Ron Holland II may have faded into the background compared to some of the bigger names in the draft, but the fifth overall pick has quietly made an impression during the Summer League.

He put in some impressive performances on Friday during the Pistons’ loss to the New York Knicks.

Holland had 20 points, six rebounds and a pair of blocks, showing his two-way talent early. The biggest concern with Holland so far has been his efficiency, as he has struggled to hit shots at a consistent rate, but that should improve once he gets comfortable in the league.

After another solid game, fans were very excited for Holland to help the struggling Pistons team.

Jared McCain cools off after strong start in Summer League

Jared McCain has performed well overall in Summer League so far, but the Duke product struggled a bit on Friday against the San Antonio Spurs.

McCain finished with eight points and five rebounds, while shooting a mediocre 3-of-13 from the field. The No. 16 overall pick also had a pair of turnovers.

After McCain’s troubles on Friday, fans wondered if he would have to play in the G League for a while before he could play in the NBA.

Kel’el Ware continues to show defensive promise

The Miami Heat drafted Kel’el Ware in hopes of adding some extra support to their defense, and so far, it appears he’s ready to give Miami just that.

The former Indiana star had 17 points, 10 rebounds and added four steals and a block, showing his defensive prowess again in Summer League.

The Heat probably don’t expect Ware to be a star player right away, nor do they expect him to be a major threat on offense. But he’s proven himself to be a solid option as a rotational player during Summer League.

After the Heat’s convincing win over the Raptors, fans again praised Ware’s defense.

Ware and the Heat have played their final regular season game of the Summer League and now begin preparations for the tournament, which begins Sunday.
