Barcelona expect €7m windfall as former defender set to complete expensive transfer

Barcelona expect €7m windfall as former defender set to complete expensive transfer

At this point, every cent that flows into Barcelona’s coffers is worth gold, so the Catalans are not only focusing on potential sales this summer, but also on other external sources of income.

One of those revenue streams that is no longer linked to Catalonia is the future of Jean Clair-Todibo. Once a promising defender at Barcelona, the Frenchman failed to thrive in the Catalan capital, but has only grown since his transfer to Nice.

Given that the club retains 20% of the player’s rights, it is of great importance to Joan Laporta and co. that the defender is on the verge of a major transfer.

Two clubs in the race

As revealed in a recent update from SPORT, Juventus and West Ham are both in negotiations with Nice over the defender’s transfer, but the two clubs are in very different positions.

West Ham have an agreement with Nice and are willing to pay the club’s €35 million fee, but there is no agreement with the player yet.

Todibo, however, prefers a transfer to Juventus, which hopes to reduce the transfer fee by including players in the equation.

The French club, as things stand, are stubborn about their €35 million price tag and will not settle for anything less. Under such circumstances, the Catalans can hope for at least €7 million from the transaction.

Payment delayed

Another important development reported by the outlet is that the payment of 20% of the transfer fee will not take place this summer, even if Todibo’s transfer goes through.

The amount must be paid one year after the official transfer and will therefore only arrive in July 2025, should Nice sell Todibo in the coming weeks.

Barcelona cannot therefore count on the above-mentioned compensation when calculating the wage bill or spending power for the current transfer period.
