Amateur baseball roundup: Bulldfrogs go deep on Rockets – West Central Tribune

RAYMOND — The Bird Island Bullfrogs definitely brought their power bats to Lilleberg Field on Friday night and came away with a big victory because of it.

Bird Island slugged four home runs in a 10-2 Corn Belt League victory over the Raymond Rockets.

The victory moves Bird Island into first place in the league with an 11-2 record. Raymond fell to 10-3.

Jordan Sagedahl slugged two home runs and also went eight innings on the mound for the victory. Dylan Gass homered and drove in four runs and Shawn Dollerschell also went deep for the Bullfrogs.

On the mound, Sagedahl struck out nine and walked three. He allowed five hits and two earned runs. At the plate, the former South Dakota State star was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.

Logan Swan went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for Bird Island.

Caleb Ditmarson was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Rockets.

Raymond hosts Granite Falls at 1:30 pm Sunday in its final Corn Belt game before the playoffs. Bird Island plays at 5 pm Sunday at Marshall.

Patrick Courtney tossed seven shutout innings, striking out nine, walking two and allowing two hits, to lead the Willmar Rails past the Granite Falls Kilowatts at Richter Field in Granite Falls.

Jack Gaumgart went 2-for-4, Ashton Greborgy was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Gunnar Banks went 1-for-3 with a double hit-by-pitch for the Rails, who are 5-8 in the Corn Belt League.

Granite Falls scored once in the bottom of the ninth. Brady Sneller went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Kilowatts, who are also 5-8 in league play.

Willmar closes out the regular season at 5 pm Sunday at Wabasso.

The Atwater Chuckers scored in the bottom of the ninth to break a 2-2 tie and beat the Payensville Pirates at Kingery Field in Atwater.

Jordan Olson was 1-for-1 with two walks, an RBI, a stolen base and a sacrifice fly for the Chuckers. Kobe Holtz went 1-for-3 with a double, a run and a hit-by-pitch. Jack Peterson was 1-for-3. David Kingery went 1-for-3 with a double and a run.

For Payneville, Rick Hendrickson went 2-for-3.

Starbuck stayed alive in the County Line League playoffs by eliminating New London-Spicer at Marthaler Park in Glenwood.

Austin Ver Steeg got the pitching win. He went six scoreless innings, striking out eight and walking three. He allowed one hit. Darion Alexander earned the save, going three innings and allowing three hits. He struck out three.

Alexander went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base. Austin Friese was 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI for the Stars.

Joey Hyde tossed a five-hitter to lead the Litchfield Blues past Buffao at Optimist Park in Litchfield.

Buffalo, which was leading the North Star League, is now 12-3. Litchfield improves to 9-6.

Litchfield hosts defending state Class C champion Maple Lake at 1 pm Sunday at Optimist Park.

Elrosa rallied in the bottom of the eighth to knock off New Munich in the first round of the Stearns County League North Division playoffs at Elrosa.

Ethan Vogt got the pitching win in relief of Will Van Beck. Payton Van Beck picked up the save.

The winner plays the Spring Hill/Greenwald winner at noon Sunday in Spring Hill. The losers play at 2:30 pm Sunday in Spring Hill.
