Cincinnati Reds Minor League Game Review: July 19, 2024

John Michael Faile extended his 16-game streak on base in the ACL Reds’ win, Livan Soto reached base four times for the Louisville Bats, Jose Franco threw 4.0 shutout innings for Dayton, Esmith Pineda hit a home run at Daytona and Ryjeteri Merite made his professional debut for the DSL Reds.

Game Notes

John Michael Faile extended his on-base streak to 16 games. After going 2-17 in six games in May, he has reached base in all 16 games since then. He has since hit .413/.557/.674 with eight extra-base hits, 12 walks and 14 strikeouts.

Drew Davies had played in 32 games this season going into Friday night’s game. He had no doubles in those 32 games. He had two on Friday. Both of his home runs this season have also come in the last eight games.

Alfredo Alcantara has had two consecutive two-hit games. He has only four total hits in the previous 11 games he has played in.

Austin Callahan was 0-5 in his first two rehab games, but he got going again Friday night with two hits, including a home run, and added a walk-in.

Game Notes

The Reds failed to score a single hit against the Red Sox Red in a 7-inning game.

Ryjeteri Merite made his professional debut that day. He left the Netherlands in December, where he had played for the U-18 national team as a pitcher and designated hitter.

Ayendy Pena had the longest road stretch of his career with his 3.0 shutout innings. He has allowed just one earned run in 16.1 innings this season – that’s a 0.55 ERA. He has seven walks and 17 strikeouts on the season.

The match against DSL Rojos has been suspended

The game resumes on July 29. The score is now 8-8 in the 5th inning.
