Bus falls off bridge in Boudh, 40 injured, 3 critical

Boud: Around 40 persons were injured when a passenger bus fell off a bridge on National Highway 57 in Boudh district in the early hours of Saturday. The bus was en route from Bhubaneswar to Malkangiri.

Three seriously injured people were shifted to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Burla.

According to reports, the bus lost its balance and fell off the Sunakhai Bridge, about 6 metres below.

Fire brigade and police personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers, who were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital in Boudh. Three of them were shifted to Burla, sources said.

Some passengers claimed that the driver was in a drunken state, which caused the accident. The police have arrested the driver and the helper of the bus and have started an investigation into the matter.
