Karnataka plans 2% levy on cinema tickets, OTT subscriptions for welfare fund

The Karnataka government is considering a levy on movie ticket and OTT subscription fees to support cinema and cultural artistes.

The cess, ranging from 1 to 2 percent, will be revised by the state government every three years. This cess will be applicable on cinema tickets, subscription charges and revenue generated by the related institutions in Karnataka.
