Press Release Stockton Ports

MODESTO, Calif. – The Stockton Ports opened their three-game series in Modesto with an 8-4 victory on Friday night, thanks to an early surge and quality pitching in the first game.

The Ports were patient in the first inning, working four walks to score a run, along with a wild pitch that scored another run for a 2-0 lead. They scored a run in the second inning when Dereck Salom drove in Myles Naylor, and added two more in the third on Bjay Cooke’s two-run homer (2) for a 5-0 lead.

The Nuts did manage to score a pair of runs off starter Yunior Tur in the bottom of the third, but that was all the Cuban native allowed. Stockton would have their biggest offensive inning of the night in the fourth, with a two-run double from TJ Schofield-Sam and a double from Nate Nankil to give the Ports a 7-2 lead.

Jose Dicochea entered the game in the sixth inning and allowed three straight hits to score a run, along with an error to allow another. That was all Dicochea would allow, however, as he would go on to throw three more scoreless innings to collect his first professional save.

Nankil finished the night 2 for 4 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Cooke’s homer went an estimated 409 feet, and Mark Adamiak went 3-2 on the year when he picked up the win with a scoreless 1.2 innings pitched.
