Below you will find spoilers for Season 4.

Prime Video’s Emmy-winning satirical superhero series “The Boys” is nearing its end.

The Boys’ Season 4 finale wrapped up on Thursday with Leader of the Seven and Earth’s most powerful Supe, Homelander (Antony Starr), taking control of the U.S. government after his buddy Senator Calhoun (David Andrews) is sworn in as the new POTUS and Congress declares martial law. Some of the Boys, on the other hand, have been captured by Vought, while Billy Butcher has gone his own way after injecting himself with Compound V and riding Joe Kessler into the abyss.

The series is based on the New York Times bestseller of the same name, written by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, who also serve as executive producers.

How ‘The Boys’ ‘Superfies’ Everyday Culture

“Boys” creator Eric Kripke said in an interview with USA TODAY ahead of the Season 4 release that the series simply “superifies” what we see in everyday culture.

“We’re reflecting what’s happening in the real world,” Kripke said. “Honestly, I wish it wouldn’t give me so much material anymore.”

Although Kripke’s comment was meant to be funny, it turns out that art is not entirely detached from reality.

On Thursday, Prime Video changed the title of the season finale from “Assassination Run” to “Season Finale” and added a warning for viewers, instead of releasing the episode just five days after the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

“This episode contains scenes of fictional political violence. Any similarities to recent events are entirely coincidental and unintended,” the warning reads. “Prime Video, Amazon, MGM Studios, Sony Pictures Television and the producers of ‘The Boys’ oppose, in the strongest terms, any form of real-world violence.”

Season 4 finale: ‘The Boys’ Adds Content Warning to Episode After Trump Assassination Attempt

Here’s what we know so far about season 5 of “The Boys,” including the cast and release date.

Will there be a fifth season of ‘The Boys’?

Yes. Two days before the release of Season 4, showrunner Kripke said in a message on X that “The Boys” will return for Season 5, which will be its last.

“That was always my plan,” Kripke said. “I just had to be careful until I got the final approval from Vought. I’m happy to bring the story to a bloody, epic, wet climax.”

The showrunner added that with season 4, “the end has begun!”

What will happen in season 5 of ‘The Boys’?

Season 4 of “The Boys” ended on a dark note for the boys, with Grace Mallory presumed dead, Butcher on a rampage, and most of them captured by Vought. Kripke said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times that if five seasons of the show could be translated into a three-act movie, it would be the low point at the end of act 2, which gives the heroes room to rise to the top by the end of the series.

However, Kripke said he is still finalizing details for Season 5 in the writers’ room and that the actors have not yet been brought into the process. The only spoiler he gave was about Homelander.

“He’s not going to be happy about it,” Kripke told the LA Times. “Spoiler alert: He’s still going to be miserable.”

The return of a major character is also likely in season 5 after glimpses of him were seen in the season finale. Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles, was seen fast asleep in his drug-induced sleep in the episode, hinting that he may return in the next season.

Kripke said in a 2022 interview with Entertainment Weekly that he “couldn’t imagine the series ending without Soldier Boy making another appearance,” which only makes the return more likely.

‘The Boys’ Season 5 Release Date

Prime has not yet announced any plans for Season 5, nor has a release date been announced.

With the exception of season 2, which debuted in the fall, all other seasons of “The Boys” were released in the summer. Season 1 debuted on July 26, 2019, while seasons 3 and 4 premiered in June 2022 and 2024, respectively, and concluded in July 2022 and 2024.
