Destiny 2 Exotic still dominates Trials of Osiris despite nerfs

One of Destiny 2’s most powerful Exotic weapons continues to dominate in Trials of Osiris, even after being weakened.

In a balance patch on July 2, Khvostov 7G-0X received three adjustments to curb its prevalence. One of them “fixed an issue that significantly reduced recoil,” while stability was increased by 30 to compensate.

The other two changes reduced the damage of Khvostov’s The Right Choice Exotic perk, making ricochet bullets deal less damage overall.

Despite this, the auto rifle has remained a top choice in PvP. According to Destiny Trials Report, at the time of writing, Khvostov was responsible for 7% of all Trials kills, more than any other weapon.

Red Death Reformed, which received its Catalyst with Echoes Act 2 on July 16, is a close second with 6%.

Well-known PvP workhorses like Igneous Hammer (Adept), Ace of Spades, Rose, and Conditional Finality are still popular, albeit less so due to the new options added in The Final Shape.

Trials of Osiris runs from the daily reset on Friday to the following weekly reset on Tuesday, so there’s still plenty of time for the standings to change. However, with Khvostov already holding a 50,000 kill lead over the runner-up, it’s unlikely there will be much movement.

The question is whether this weekend’s results will prompt Bungie to consider a second round of balancing to further reduce Khvostov’s potency.
