PERAK SURPRISES DEFENDING CHAMPIONS PAHANG 4-1 TO CLAIM NATIONAL 5-A-WAY HOCKEY TITLE

KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 (Bernama) — Newcomer Perak won the third edition of the National Five-Player Hockey Championship by convincingly beating reigning champions Pahang 4-1 in the final played at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil today.

Despite their debut in the championship, the Perak side led by head coach Muhammad Husaini Mohd Husin performed excellently from the start, sending Pahang into their own half and taking the lead in the third minute through Mohamad Ashran Hamsani.

Buoyed by the early lead, Perak played with great confidence and after a thrilling three-minute spell, Silver took a 4-0 lead. Pahang were thrown into disarray when Azmilmuizzuddin Misron (12′), Mohamad Ashran (13′) and Muhammad Fahmi Khalid (14′) scored in quick succession.

Pahang scored the consolation goal five minutes from time thanks to a shot from Shafiq Ikhmal Daniel Suzaini.

As champions, Perak received RM5,000 in cash, medals and a trophy, while Pahang as runners-up received RM3,000 and medals.

“Despite participating in the championship for the first time and playing against the reigning champions, a high level of effort and dedication led to the team’s success. The players in the squad have the potential to go far in their careers,” Muhammad Husaini said after the match here today.

Meanwhile, PDRM were crowned champions in the women’s final after beating Kuala Lumpur (KL) 3-1 at the same venue.

PDRM scored through Nurul Najihah Mansur (3rd min), Wan Norfaiezah Md Saluti (11th min) and Norazlin Sumantri (18th min), while KL’s only goal of the match was scored by Nur Zafirah Aziz in the 12th minute.
