2 Big Additions to Gautam Gambhir’s Staff: Keep T Dilip – Report

According to a report, the BCCI is all set to appoint Abhiehsk Nayar and Ryan Ten Doeschate as assistant coaches of the Indian cricket team. While there has been no official statement from the team management, reports claim that both Nayar and ten Doeschate will be joining new head coach Gautam Gambhir in the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka. Previously, Nayar was the assistant coach for Kolkata Knights while Doeschate also served as KKR’s fielding coach when Gambhir was serving as a mentor. T Dilip, who served as the fielding coach under Rahul Dravid, will also reportedly be retained in the new support staff.

There are still questions surrounding the appointment of the bowling coach, but Morne Morkel, a former fast bowler for the South African cricket team, is seen as a strong candidate for the position.

Morkel has also worked with Gambhir as part of the Kolkata Knight Riders team. Morkel played for the franchise between 2014 and 2016, under Gambhir’s captaincy, and even won the title in 2014.

The report states that Dilip and Nayar will travel to Sri Lanka with the team, but it is not clear when Ten Doeschate will join the team. He is currently working as part of the coaching staff of the LA Knight Riders in the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC). The board is currently in talks with Morkel about the bowling coach’s job, but no concrete outcome has emerged from the talks.
