Investigation Underway: Liverpool have requested information on £38m tank who has already won 3 trophies this year

Investigation Underway: Liverpool have requested information on £38m tank who has already won 3 trophies this year

Liverpool’s ongoing search for central defence reinforcements is reportedly heading to the Bundesliga.

According to sources at CaughtOffside, the Reds have enquired about a potential deal for Bayer Leverkusen defender Odilon Kossounou, who reportedly wants to leave the German champions because he is keen to play in the Premier League.

Xabi Alonso’s team are reportedly willing to sell the 23-year-old forward for around €45 million (£38 million). The player has not yet responded to a contract offer from his current employers, while Newcastle have also shown interest in the Ivory Coast international.

Liverpool’s attempts to bolster their central defence were dealt a blow when Manchester United won the transfer race for Leny Yoro earlier this week, with Manchester United willing to pay more than the Reds for the young French defender.

Sepp van den Berg played well in the pre-season, but could be retained by Arne Slot as a suitable first-team option once the season starts. However, it seems that LFC are still looking for reinforcements outside of Anfield.

According to FBref, the 1.88m Kossounou is a great player with the ball. He was in the top 1% of position mates in Europe’s top five leagues for successful take-ons and progressive carries per 90 minutes last year, along with the top 2% for progressive passes and the top 4% for shot-creating plays.

However, that doesn’t seem to have deterred the Reds’ recruitment team and we await with bated breath to see whether the reported interest will translate into a formal offer any time soon.
