New Minister of Primary Education Wants Students in Grade 4 to Read to Make Meaning

JOHANNESBURG – Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube is visiting all nine provinces.

This is intended to discuss challenges before major policy changes are implemented.

Gwarube says she wants to ensure that students in grade four can read meaningfully.

After 30 years of freedom, the country’s education system is struggling with poor infrastructure, overcrowded classrooms and pit toilets.
