Carlos Sainz makes the most of qualifying and starts fourth in the Hungarian GP

Saturday July 20, 2024:
– Free Practice 3: P5, 1:16.639, 16 laps
– Qualifying: P4, 1:15.696, 26 laps

  • Carlos Sainz finished fourth in the qualifying session of the Hungarian GP and will start from the second row. The track conditions were difficult, with occasional drizzle during the session.
  • Q1 started on a wet track, but it quickly dried and Carlos took advantage of the situation to set a time of 1:17.244, which allowed him to progress to the next round without having to use a second set of soft tyres.
  • In Q2, the Ferrari driver repeated the same strategy and stopped the clock at 1:15.885, finishing fourth and advancing to Q3 on one set of fresh tyres.
  • This meant he had two sets of new soft tyres at his disposal for Q3, where he improved his time to 1:15.696 to qualify fourth, 469 thousandths of a second off pole position.
  • There were two red flags during the session: first in Q1 when Sergio Perez crashed and later in Q3 when Yuki Tsunoda did the same.

QUOTES:
“We had a good qualifying, with good and very solid laps every time I was on track, pushing our car to the limit. We improved a little bit this weekend, but looking at the timesheet I think today’s P4 was the best result we could have. Tomorrow we have to be extremely focused the whole race, because there can be opportunities and we have to make sure we are there to take them. Let’s race!”
