Houston police officer fires service weapon, injures 1 person

A Houston police officer allegedly fired his service weapon Saturday morning, wounding one person during an investigation, authorities said.

Officers with the Houston Police Department were dispatched to the area near the 12800 block of Westheimer in southwest Houston, according to a social media post from the agency’s official account. It was not immediately clear what the original call was about.

The police statement, posted about 12:45 p.m., said only: “Preliminary information is the officer fired his weapon and the suspect was struck.”

There are no details yet about the severity of the person’s injuries and it is not clear what alleged crime authorities are designating the person as a “suspect” for.
