Gstaad: Berrettini beats Tsitsipas to reach final

Italy’s Matteo Berrettini, ranked No. 6, defeated Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6 (6), 7-5 to advance to the final of the Swiss Open at the Roy Emerson Arena in Gstaad on Saturday.

Berrettini, a former world number six who is now ranked 82, will play French qualifier Quentin Halys for the title on Sunday. It is the third time in his career that the Italian has reached the final in Gstaad. He won the title in 2018 and was runner-up in 2022.

It was also Berrettini’s first victory over the Greek player in four meetings on the ATP Tour (five if you count qualifying for the 2017 US Open).

In preparation for his victory today, the Italian defeated Argentine Pedro Cachin (6-4, 7-6 (2)), Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan (6-4, 6-2) and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the number 3 (7-6 (7), 7-6 (2)).

Tsitsipas, ranked 12th, earlier in the tournament defeated Serbia’s Hamad Medjedovic (7-6 (6), 6-3) and Italy’s Fabio Fognini, ranked 7th (6-4, 6-3).
