4 people, 2 dogs rescued after boat begins sinking on Lake Erie

ASHTABULA, Ohio (WJW) — The U.S. Coast Guard responded Saturday after receiving a MAYDAY call from a boat in distress on Lake Erie.

The 22-foot sport vessel reportedly took on water near Ashtabula with four people and two dogs on board.

Three Good Samaritan boats and the Ashtabula station were called to assist. The Coast Guard was able to rescue three people and the two animals, while the captain remained on board.

With the help of those on scene, the boat eventually stopped taking on water and was escorted back to Ashtabula Harbor, the Coast Guard said.
