On July 13, a record number of Young 88s competed in the first Lewmar Triple Series race.

The Young 88s were the largest class in the event.

Flash Gordon, Babe and Sailor Moon were in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place with Spilt Decision taking the handicap win.

Flash Gordon and Babe showed how it was done, but the next four yachts, after 12 hours of racing, finished within four minutes of each other. Another example of the close racing that the Young 88s always provide.

It was a painfully light first four hours with lots of calm sections to fall into around the top of Rangitoto and along the west coast of Motutapu. The wind eventually filled up around Rakino and there was a great kite run to Motuora with the front group of boats battling it out.

The next tack around Tiri, to Northern Leading and on to the finish was glorious with a SE 10 – 15 knot breeze dropping to around 8 knots through the Rangitoto Channel and on to the finish. The sun shone during the day and the moon shone at night making for a great start to the series.
