Wildfire breaks out near District of Valemount on Highway 5 – BC News

The BC Wildfire Service reports they are responding to an incident that occurred approximately 2.5 kilometres west of Highway 5 and the Valemount District.

“This lightning-caused fire was discovered this afternoon and is currently estimated to be approximately 0.5 hectares in size. The fire has been classified as out of control and is currently burning at Level 2,” BCWS said in a written statement.

BCWS is on site with paratroopers and first assault teams, along with additional air support.

The wildfire may be visible from the highway and surrounding area, but BCWS says there is currently no threat to traffic or power lines.

This is located near the Canoe River and is monitored by the Prince George Fire Centre.
