SL vs BAN Women Asia Cup: Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets

Hosts Sri Lanka started their Women’s T20 Asia Cup campaign on a positive note by beating Bangladesh by seven wickets on Saturday.

After restricting Bangladesh to a modest 111 for eight, Sri Lanka completed the task with 17 balls remaining, reaching 114/3 in 17.1 overs.

Bangladesh opted to bat first, but started disastrously, losing three wickets with just six runs on the board. They were soon 17/4, and then 48/5, before captain Nigar Sultana steadied the sinking ship with a 48-run knock that came off 59 balls and included six boundaries.

Shorna Akter played a smooth 14-ball 25 as Bangladesh crossed the 100 mark.

Udeshika Prabodhani (2/20) and Inoshi Priyadharshani (2/17) took two wickets each for Sri Lanka, while one each for Sugandika Kumari, Kavisha Dilhari and Chamari Athapaththu.

In terms of batting for Sri Lanka, opener Vishmi Gunaratne was the highest scorer with 51 from 48 balls, hitting seven fours and a six in her innings.

Harshitha Samarawickrama scored 33 runs from 31 balls and took her team to the brink of victory.

Nahida Akter was the best bowler for Bangladesh, finishing with a fine figure of 3/12 in her quota of four overs.
