2 Key Pieces of Dodgers Pitching Rotation Return

The Dodgers asked for pitching help and the call was answered from home.

Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts told reporters after Saturday’s walk-off win over the Red Sox that both Tyler Glasnow and Clayton Kershaw will come off the IL the following week.

Glasnow, who has been battling a stiff back, will start in Game 3 of the Dodgers series against the Giants on Wednesday.

Kershaw will then make his season debut in the series finale against San Francisco on Thursday. It will be the left-hander’s first start since undergoing midseason surgery on his left shoulder. It will also be his third consecutive start against the Giants, dating back to the end of last season.

They are the first two of seven starting pitchers on the IL that the Dodgers get back. While Kershaw is not in his prime, his veteran presence will help stabilize a pitching staff that is loaded with inexperience. He will give LA some certainty every fifth day.

As for Glasnow, his injury wasn’t expected to keep him out long. He’ll likely be right back at the top of the Dodgers rotation. When he went on the IL, he had a 3.47 ERA with 143 strikeouts in a career-high 109.0 innings in 18 starts.

Gavin Stone has been excellent this season, but with Glasnow at the top of the rotation, it will be much harder to perform optimally against the rookie.
