Kerry Condon is already a huge box office star with a voice-over of €7 billion

Kerry Condon, best known for her quiet roles in Better Call Saul and The Banshees of Inisherin, will star in next year’s biggest blockbuster, alongside Brad Pitt.

The Tipperary actor will be in the spotlight among A-list actors next year in the thrilling action film F1 on Apple TV.

But it may surprise many to learn that she is already Ireland’s highest-earning actress thanks to her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Condon voiced Iron Man’s AI assistant FRIDAY in five Marvel films, which collectively grossed more than $8 billion (7.3 billion euros) at the box office.

According to recent findings from the website CSGO Luck, her films have collectively grossed $8.27 billion at the box office.

That puts her in fourth place in terms of Irish acting talent, behind Liam Neeson ($11.6 billion), Michael Gambon ($8.55 billion) and Domhnall Gleeson ($8.38 billion), the latter two of whom have seen their numbers soar following their involvement in the popular Harry Potter franchise.

Iron Man originally had JARVIS as his suit AI, but this was replaced after it became the android Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Speaking on FRIDAY to The Playlist in April, Condon laughed about how, despite sharing many scenes with Robert Downey Jnr – including the famous Ironman death scene – she had only recently met him.

“She still lives on in the theme parks and stuff, but funny enough, I only met Robert Downey Jr. for the first time a few months ago,” she revealed.

‘It was so wild because the two of us were like, “Oh wow,” like, “I’ve been your buddy, and we’ve never met until now.” It was really surreal and funnier than anything because I was like, that’s me, I was that voice the whole time!’

“It was a huge moment of happiness for me because I never thought there would be so many films made,” she continued.

‘I thought it would just be Age Of Ultron, a gig that came back every now and then, and before I knew it, I was being brought back all the time, all the time.’

“So I really loved it and it really opened my eyes to voice work,” she added. “It’s a lot harder than you think; I think people who do cartoon voices and stuff like that, it’s really a skill and I definitely wasn’t sure if it was my strong suit; I definitely need to practice it some more because I’ve only done one role.”

She also revealed that although her voice is the last thing Tony Stark, played by Downey Jnr, hears, she has not been told for sure that he is dead.

“It’s funny because I don’t get the script. They don’t tell me because it’s such a secret, honestly. It would get you drunk,” she laughed.

‘And I thought, “But he’s not really dead, is he? He’s not completely dead?” and they didn’t answer, because they didn’t want to answer, because then I would tell everyone, and they all looked at me really sadly and said, “Just say it as the saddest thing you’ve ever said.”‘

‘And I thought about all the residue I had from all the movies, and I thought, “Well, that won’t be hard! The whole thing has come to a standstill!” So that was the end for me; it was the end of an era.’

But Condon is entering a new era after her Oscar-nominated role in The Banshees of Inisherin.

The release of the teaser trailer for F1 last week reveals that she will play a central role in the plot of the mega-budget film that has been shot over the past two F1 seasons – this time in body and voice!

In the trailer for the Apple Studios film – made in partnership with Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment and Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton’s Dawn Apollo Films – Condon plays the technical director of the fictional APXGP Formula 1 team, which competes against real Formula 1 teams and drivers in the film.

The film, which isn’t due to be released until next summer, is expected to be a global success. The popularity of the sport has skyrocketed following the Netflix documentary series Drive To Survive F1. This is Condon’s biggest role of her career and her first major role since Banshees. However, she has also appeared in smaller-scale films In The Land Of Saints And Sinners and Night Swim.

She will also be seen in the upcoming Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
