(MENAFN) The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) reported on Friday that a total of 1.26 million motor vehicles were registered in Turkey in the first half of 2024. This is a remarkable increase of 19.2 percent compared to the same period last year, indicating a significant increase in vehicle registrations.

During this six-month period, 508,801 cars were added to the country’s fleet. Of these new registrations, gasoline-powered cars were the most common, accounting for 65.2 percent of the total. Hybrid cars followed, accounting for 12.9 percent of new registrations, while diesel cars made up 12.4 percent. Electric cars represented 8.4 percent of new registrations, and LPG cars made up 1.1 percent.

By the end of June, the total number of registered road vehicles in Turkey had reached almost 30 million, specifically 29.98 million. This total includes various categories of vehicles: cars accounted for 52.5 percent, motorcycles 18.8 percent, small trucks 15.3 percent, tractors 7.4 percent, trucks 3.3 percent, minibuses 1.7 percent, buses 0.7 percent and special vehicles 0.3 percent of the total number.

In June alone, 198,581 road vehicles were registered, adding a significant number of new vehicles to the national fleet for the month. This influx of new registrations contributes to the overall increase in the number of vehicles in the country and reflects the ongoing trends in vehicle preferences and registrations.
