6 Sri Lankan fishermen missing: official

The Sri Lanka Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources reported on Saturday that two fishing boats carrying six Sri Lankan fishermen have gone missing.

Susantha Kahawatta, Director General of the department, told media that the vessels left Sri Lanka from different ports on July 7.

One of them is a multi-day fishing vessel with four crew members, while the other is a one-day fishing vessel with two fishermen, Kahawatta said.

The department has informed the Sri Lanka Navy and other relevant agencies, who have launched a search operation to locate the vessels and their crew, he said.
