Four SeaWolves join forces for fifth no-hitter in franchise history

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Jackson Jobe, the No. 11 prospect in all of baseball, dominated for six innings before Jake Higginbotham, Matt Seelinger and Garrett Hill each threw one hitless inning as the four combined to throw the fifth no-hitter in SeaWolves history in a 3-0 win over Binghamton on Saturday.

Jobe struck out five and allowed just two walks in six strong innings for Erie (50-37). He struck out 70 pitches, including 49 strikes. Higginbotham and Seelinger each threw perfect innings and Hill allowed just one walk to earn his first save of the season with the ‘Wolves.

The SeaWolves jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Binghamton error (47-39) before Jake Holton hit a sacrifice fly in the third to make it 2-0. Eliezer Alfonzo, who caught the no-hitter, hit a solo homerun in the ninth inning to complete the scoring.

Saturday’s no-hitter was the second combined no-hitter in SeaWolves history. Alex Faedo and Drew Carlton combined for one in 2019 against Bowie. Elvin Hernandez had the first no-hitter in a 7-0 win at Oneonta in 1995 before Thad Weber threw one at UPMC Park in a 16-0 win against Akron in 2009. Casey Mize also had a no-hitter for the ‘Wolves in 2019 at Altoona.
