Tampa Bay Rays at New York Yankees

  • Leg 1: Yankees Moneyline (-162)
  • Stage 2: More than 8.5 runs in total (-120)
  • Leg 3: Yankees over 4.5 team total runs (-125)

The Yankees started the second half strong with a win over the Rays, but Saturday saw similar results to how they ended the first half: poor pitching and no hitting. The Yankees have lost eight of their last nine series, so to have a chance to win this one, they need a win today.

Marcus Stroman looked like a fantastic addition early in the season, but like many of the pitchers on this staff, he has had some mixed results, posting a 5.68 ERA and holding opponents to a .433 slugging rating in his last five starts. His best start came against the Rays, where he allowed one earned run in 4.1 innings.

The Rays are hovering around .500, but in the new playoff system with three Wild Card spots, they still have a shot at the playoffs.

They will have a tough time beating some teams, but they do have the advantage of playing in the American League East, where two spots are occupied by a team in that division, giving them a chance to play the teams above them.

The problem is they’ve always had a great pitching staff to rely on (not this year) and a good lineup (something else they lack).

Shane Baz made his 2024 debut against the Yankees after missing the entire 2023 season due to Tommy John surgery. He allowed three runs in 4.1 innings.

The fact that the Yankees are now playing an inexperienced pitcher they haven’t seen yet this year could help them, as things looked bad the day before.

St. Louis Cardinals at Atlanta Braves

  • Leg 1: Braves Moneyline (-148)
  • Stage 2: More than 8.5 runs in total (-115)
  • Stage 3: Braves over 4.5 team total runs (-110)

The Braves entered this series with a four-game lead over the top Wild Card spot against tonight’s opponent, but were unable to gain any ground because they tied the doubleheader.

Atlanta’s biggest disappointment this year has been their offense. The loss of Ronald Acuna Jr. doesn’t help matters, but with the exception of Marcell Ozuna, most of the lineup has been a disappointment.

They have one of the best pitching staffs in the league, including the current leading National League Cy Young candidate, and together they have the best ERA in all of baseball. Rookie Spencer Schwellenbach has really hit his stride, as he has allowed a run in each of his last two starts, one of which came against the Phillies.

Philadelphia leads the league in runs scored per game, with the Cardinals in 23rd. St. Louis has a lot of problems; they can’t get production out of their offense with guys like Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenando having down years, and with the exception of Sonny Gray, they don’t have a reliable rotation. That includes Miles Mikolas, who is having another terrible season and is coming off his sixth start in which he has allowed at least five earned runs.

This Braves squad has a .333 batting average against Mikolas and we, the offense, should help them pull out a meaningful win.
