9 Road Closures in Michigan to Watch Out For This Week If You’re Traveling

Keep an eye on the latest road construction projects in Michigan getting underway this week.

The state Department of Transportation (MDOT) has scheduled approximately 70 road projects that will close lanes, ramps and entire sections of major roads between Sunday, July 21 and Saturday, July 27.

These projects are in addition to ongoing projects carried over from previous weeks.

Drivers should expect possible traffic congestion, especially during busy periods, on highways such as I-96 in Oakland County, US 31 in Muskegon and Berrien counties, and US 12 in St. Joseph County.

Below is a summary of nine closures to watch out for this week. All projects are weather dependent. State officials remind drivers to slow down and follow posted signs in work zones.

A complete overview of the road projects is available via the online map and the construction list of MDOT.

US 12 in St. Joseph County

Both eastbound and westbound lanes of US 12 from A Road to Klinger Lake Road beginning at 7 a.m. Monday. The closure will last until 5 p.m. Saturday.

Drivers are asked to detour via US 12 to Lutz Road, Featherstone Road, Shimmel Road and US 12. During this time, the eastbound and westbound lanes of Michigan Avenue from 9 ½ Mile Road to Wheatfield Parkway will be closed for maintenance.

A detour will take you via southbound US-24 to northbound M-10 to southbound M-10 to westbound 12 Mile Road to southbound Orchard Lake Road to westbound I-696.
