6 Skin Care Mistakes That Can Make Your Face Look ‘Years’

To keep your skin young, it is important to take good care of it. That means implementing a skin care routine.

But with so many products on the market, it can be difficult to know which products you need for your skin.

Lisa Kavanagh, founder of Sphagnum De-Lux, said: “There is so much misinformation online about the best way to prevent wrinkles and lines, leading many people to mistakenly follow a routine that worsens their skin.

“From using hot water to not removing makeup at night, not using the right skin care products or routines can make your face look years older.

“While it’s normal to develop wrinkles and lines as we age, following the wrong skin care products can lead to accelerated aging and damaged skin.”

1. Do not use eye serum

The skin around the eyes is one of the thinnest skins on the body. That is why it is important to use a cream or serum here regularly.

Failure to care for the skin around your eyes can cause wrinkles, bags and sagging skin.

2. Using more than three products at the same time

According to the expert, the rule of three is crucial in skin care, because using too many products at once can lead to chronic inflammation, which ages the skin.

This can also lead to the breakdown of collagen and elastin, which can cause wrinkles and sagging skin.

3. Don’t remove make-up in the evening

The expert explains: “While it’s common for people to accidentally forget to remove some mascara or concealer at night, repeatedly forgetting to remove makeup before bed can have damaging effects on the skin.

“Leaving it in can lead to accelerated aging because it breaks down collagen and causes fine lines and wrinkles.”

4. Lack of moisturizer on the neck

While it is common to moisturize the face, many people often forget about their neck, which is essential for anti-aging.

According to the expert, the lack of moisture can lead to neck rings, which can cause sagging and horizontal lines.

5. Exfoliating too much

The pro continued: “Exfoliating your skin is healthy, but doing it too often can destroy your skin barrier, which can lead to dryness and irritation, which in turn accelerates aging.”

Exfoliating three times a week is sufficient, unless you have extremely sensitive skin.

6. Not wearing SPF

It’s important to apply SPF to your face and neck whenever you leave the house, even in the winter months.

Sun exposure can ‘significantly’ age the skin and neck, causing dark spots and premature aging.

7. Use hot water to wash your face

Washing your face with hot water can make your skin extremely dry, damaging the skin barrier and causing wrinkles and lines.

Make sure to only use hot water occasionally to open the pores. For daily use, lukewarm water is more effective.
