Russia claims it shot down 8 Ukrainian drones in night raid

Russia claimed on Sunday it had shot down eight drones launched by Ukraine in a night-time raid on the country.

According to a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry, the country’s air defenses shot down three drones over the Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region.

It was further claimed that five more drones were intercepted over the Black Sea.

Earlier, Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov announced via Telegram that an air raid siren had been issued for the city of Belgorod and the surrounding Belgorodsky district, as well as for the city of Shebekino and the Shebekinsky region due to a possible rocket attack. This alert has since been lifted.

A few hours later, Gladkov issued another warning for the entire region, but this has also since been lifted.

Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on the claims.
