Women’s U19 European Championship schedule and results: Spain and Netherlands join England and France in semi-finals | Women’s U19

Spain and the Netherlands will face England and France respectively in the semi-finals of the UEFA European Under-19 Women’s Championship after winning the deciding match in Group B on Sunday.

Both Monday openers in that group ended in draws, with defending champions Spain finishing 0-0 against Ireland despite topping the table in shots on target by 29-0, and the Netherlands making it 1-1 against Germany in the 90th minute.

Ireland, who had their first chance in the final on Thursday, led at half-time through Lia O’Leary against Germany, but lost 2-1 thanks to substitutes Leonie Schetter (on her 18th birthday) and Laila Portella. In the closing stages of the match, a third draw in the group looked possible, but with three minutes remaining Lotte Keukelaar gave the Netherlands a 1-0 win over Spain.

Highlights: Netherlands 1-0 Spain

Now Spain needed a win against Germany to keep their title defence alive and Noemí Bejarano and Pau Comendador scored for a 2-0 victory in a dominant performance. The Netherlands took top spot when Karlijn Woons and Mirte van Koppen secured a 2-0 victory against Ireland.

France were through in Group A with one game remaining after coming from behind to beat Serbia 3-1 and then Lithuania 6-0. England secured a competition record 10-0 win over the home side but needed a 90th-minute penalty from substitute Mia Enderby to draw 1-1 with Serbia, leaving them still needing a point on Saturday.

Highlights: Serbia 4-1 Lithuania

That was achieved with a 1-0 draw thanks to a goal from substitute Poppy Pritchard with 12 minutes remaining, meaning England pipped France to top spot. It also meant that Serbia’s 4-1 win over Lithuania was for naught, despite a hat-trick from Nina Matejić, who added to her goals against France and England to take her current top scorer tally to five, one more than Pritchard and Camille Robillard. Lithuania did manage to score their first ever goal in a UEFA Women’s Final, a scandalous long-range free-kick from Karolina Jasaitytė.

The semi-finals are on Wednesday in Marijampolé and Kaunas, with the deciding match taking place three days later.
