Novak Djokovic 4th on list, Rafael Nadal reaches 131st

Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic both recently improved their total number of singles finals appearances with their respective scores at the Swedish Open and Wimbledon.

Only three men have played in more ATP finals than the legendary duo, including their great rival Roger Federer.

5. Rafael Nadal — 131

Rafael Nadal has played in 131 ATP singles finals in his 23-year professional career to date and has a record of 92-3.

The Spaniard has reached 72 finals on clay (63-9), 52 on hard court (25-27) and seven on grass (4-3), while winning one indoor title across both clay and hard court events.

Nadal lost in his first final at the Auckland Open in 2004 to Dominik Hrbaty, while in his last final at the Swedish Open in 2024 he lost to Nuno Borges.

4. Novak Djokovic — 139

Novak Djokovic has reached 139 singles finals in his 21-year career so far, winning 98 of those matches.

The Serb has a record of 71-21 from his 92 championship matches on hard courts (19-6 indoor), 33 on clay (19-14) and 14 on grass (8-6).

Djokovic defeated Nicolas Massu in his first final at the Dutch Open in 2006 and finished runner-up to Carlos Alcaraz in his most recent title fight at Wimbledon in 2024.

3. Ivan Lendl — 146

Ivan Lendl achieved a 94–52 record in the 146 ATP finals he appeared in during his professional career from 1978 to 1994.

The Czech-American reached 52 hardcourt finals (30-22), 51 on carpet (34-17), 38 on clay (28-10) and five on grass (2-3). He appeared in 85 outdoor finals (52-33) and 61 indoor finals (42-19).

Lendl lost his first final to Balazs Taroczy at the 1979 Belgian Open, while he lost his last title fight to Pete Sampras in Sydney in 1994.

2. Roger Federer — 157

Roger Federer appeared in 157 tour-level finals, winning 103 of them, in a professional career that began in 1998 and ended in 2022.

The Swiss won 71 of the 98 hardcourt title matches he played (24 indoors), compared to 19 of 27 on grass, 11 of 26 on clay and two of six on carpet.

Federer lost in his first final at the Marseille Open in 2000 to Marc Rosset, and in his last final at the Swiss Indoors in Basel in 2019 to Alex de Minaur.

1. Jimmy Connors — 164

Jimmy Connors won 109 of the 164 ATP singles finals he reached – both records – during a professional career that spanned 1972 to 1996.

The American has won 55 titles indoors on hardcourt and carpet, while he won 31 on outdoor hardcourt, 14 on clay and nine on grass.

Connors lost his first ATP final in five sets to Tom Gorman at the 1971 Columbus Open and won his last ever title match against Gilad Bloom in Tel Aviv in 1989.
