Milan pursuit of Niclas Fullkrug takes huge blow

Atletico Madrid could scuttle Paulo Fonseca’s bid to bolster his attacking line-up at Milan with the addition of Niclas Fullkrug. According to German news outlet Bild, The Rojiblancos are prepared to make a significant offer of €30 million for the robust striker.

Milan plucked Alvaro Morata away from Atletico Madrid earlier this week. In addition to the Spaniard’s arrival, the club handed prodigious 16-year-old Francesco Camarda his first professional contract on Saturday. But the loss of Olivier Giroud to Los Angeles FC has left a hole in the attack.

Although Morata is a seasoned campaigner, Milan had hoped to include Fullkrug in their new front line. However, Atletico Madrid’s €30 million bid would have Rossoneri out of the water. That is almost double the amount Borussia Dortmund paid Werder Bremen to sign him last summer.

Die Borussen splashed €17 million on the 31-year-old 12 months ago and are likely to accept Atletico Madrid’s offer straight away. Fullkrug’s performances off the bench at EURO 2024 impressed Diego Simeone, who is set to overtake Milan in the race for the German marksman.

All is not lost for Milan. Simeone reportedly sees the former Werder Bremen talent as a potential game-changer off the bench, meaning he doesn’t consider Fullkrug a first-choice striker. On the other hand, he would likely play a more prominent role for Milan.

Fullkrug could therefore still choose Milan over the Wanda Metropolitano stadium. It stays being seen or whether the Italian giants can come up with a satisfactory proposal that matches Atlético Madrid’s offer.
