Beetlejuice 2’s MPA rating contains more intense warnings than Tim Burton’s 1988 original

Did you know that “Beetlejuice” is rated PG? One can only imagine the demonic force Tim Burton made a deal with to secure that rating for his beloved 1988 horror comedy. In case you forgot, this is a film that features Michael Keaton’s Ghost With the Most dropping one of the greatest f-bombs of all time before tooting his dick, gleefully pretending to jerk off, and hanging out at a supernatural strip club called “Dante’s Inferno Room.” Meanwhile, Geena Davis rips her own face off and at one point holds Alec Baldwin’s bloody, decapitated head. This was also a few years after the “stealth horror” of “Gremlins” and “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” which led to the creation of the PG-13, making it all the more impressive how many strange creatures and mischievous moments Burton managed to smuggle past the notoriously conservative ratings board.
