JUPITER, Fla. – With a season-high 14 runs and 17 hits, the Jupiter Hammerheads (48-42, 12-12) completed a sweep of the St. Lucie Mets (30-60, 8-16) by a final score of 14-9 on Sunday afternoon at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. It was Jupiter’s second sweep of the season, the only other time being a six-game sweep of the Dunedin Blue Jays from April 23-28. Hammerheads manager Nelson Prada also earned his 700th career win.

For the third consecutive game, the Hammerheads got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Colby Shade led off with a pitch and two batters later, with Shade on third base, Shade scored on a wild pitch by St. Lucie starting pitcher Jordany Ventura to give Jupiter an early 1-0 lead.

St. Lucie provided an answer in the top of the third inning from Jupiter starting pitcher Walin Castillo. With two outs and a runner on first base with a leadoff walk, Boston Baro singled to put two runners in scoring position before Kevin Villavicencio hit a two-RBI single to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.

The Hammerheads weren’t far behind as Jupiter came out strong in the bottom half of the inning. Jupiter started the inning with three straight singles, including an RBI single by Yeral Martinez to tie the game. JT Mabry would give the Hammerheads the lead back on an RBI groundout. Later in the inning, with two outs and the bases loaded, Cristhian Rodriguez hit a two-RBI single to left field and Shade followed that up with an RBI double to cap off the run production. Ultimately, 10 batters stepped up to bat for the Hammerheads and five runs were scored, giving Jupiter a 6-2 lead.

In a stunning turn of events, the Mets sent 10 batters to the plate in the fifth inning and scored six runs on five hits and two errors by Jupiter. St. Lucie cut the lead to 8-6.

The Hammerheads, however, narrowed the deficit in the sixth inning when Shade scored on an RBI fielder’s choice by Ryan Ignoffo to make it 8-7 in favor of St. Lucie. Jupiter added another run in the seventh inning when Angelo DiSpigna drove in Jordan McCants on an RBI double to tie the score at 8-8.

In a thrilling game, the Mets regained the lead in the eighth inning on an RBI groundout by Vincent Perozo, giving St. Lucie a 9-8 lead.

Jupiter got going in the final half of the inning, when the Hammerheads came to bat for the second time in the game. They sent 10 batters to bat and collected seven hits, scoring six runs and taking a 14-9 lead.

It was the fifth time this season that the Hammerheads have scored at least 10 runs, four of them against the Mets, and the second straight game in which they struck out twice. Eight of the nine Jupiter hitters in the starting lineup had at least one hit, while seven batters had two or more hits.

After the day off on Monday, the Hammerheads remain home and host the Daytona Tortugas for six games, beginning on Tuesday, July 23. The first game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
