Koenigsegg drops 3-cylinder from .7 million Gemera, buyers prefer 0,000 V8 engine

Koenigsegg is scrapping the 3-cylinder Gemera because only a small number of buyers were actually interested in it.

The 2.0-liter three-cylinder twin-turbo engine plus three electric motors are said to deliver 1,400 hp in the Gemera.

However, buyers prefer the hybrid V8 engine that produces nearly 2,300 horsepower, a $400,000 option for the Koenigsegg Gemera.

The four-seater Koenigsegg Gemera is said to have a starting price of $1.7 million, excluding options such as the $400,000 V8 option.

Production will be limited to 300 units worldwide, with the first units expected to be delivered later this year.

Sweden’s Koenigsegg Automotive will Ginger hypercar with the 2.0-liter, twin-turbo three-cylinder inline base engine, because only a small group of buyers actually needed that.

In a podcast interview picked up by CarBuzz, Koenigsegg CEO Christian von Koenigsegg told Top Gear that the wealthy prefer the hybrid V8 engine that produces nearly 2,300 horsepower, despite it being a $400,000 option for the Gemera.

Koenigsegg’s boss told Top Gear that he had managed to convince the few buyers who preferred a three-cylinder engine, the TFG (Tiny Friendly Giant) engine, to opt for the V8.

Unlike the V8 engine option, the 2.0-liter three-cylinder dry sump twin-turbo engine plus three electric motors in the four-seat Gemera are said to produce a combined output of 1,400 hp.

During the unveiling of the production version of the four-seater Gemera in 2020, the CEO and founder stated that the new Mega-GT is spacious enough to accommodate four full-sized adults and have room for their luggage.

At the time of its 2020 reveal, the Koenigsegg Gemera was reportedly set to start at $1.7 million before options such as the $400,000 V-8 option. Production will be limited to 300 units worldwide (down from an original 350), with the first examples expected to be delivered later this year.
