LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘House of the Dragon’ season 2 began streaming on HBO on June 16, 2024. The thrilling action-adventure series has been a delight for audiences amidst speculation as the Greens and Blacks battle for the coveted Iron Throne.

Black faction leader Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) finds herself in a difficult position in episode two when an assassination attempt is made on her. Ser Arryk Cargyll (Luke Tittensor), sent by Criston Cole (Fabian Frankel), tries unsuccessfully to kill Rhaenyra.

One of the reasons she survived was Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno), known as the White Worm. She was the one who spotted Arryk disguised as his twin and saved her at the last minute. Mysaria has been a close ally of Rhaenyra ever since. However, some fans think Rhaenyra is making a mistake by trusting her

Mysaria is a character who has a deep network in King’s Landing, especially in the Flea Bottom among the little people, prostitutes, and Gold Cloaks, as we saw in Blood and Cheese. Her alliance with Rhaenyra is a way to make herself useful, so that she would later have Rhaenyra lift up the little people. However, fans are not convinced and do not trust her.

A Reddit user posted, “I’ll say it now, Rhaenyra is making a mistake by completely trusting Mysaria,” adding, “Ultimately, Mysaria comes across to me as a character who is only there for herself. She has no reason to be completely loyal to a royal. I noticed Rhaenyra opening up to her way too much, talking about her insecurities etc. It’s not going to end well.”

Another Reddit user noted, “As much as I hate to say it, they’re setting her up like Varys in the show – I serve the empire. She will definitely turn on Rhaenyra if she feels Rhaenyra is hurting the little people or the empire,” comparing her to the iconic character from ‘Game of Thrones.’

One Reddit user said: “Those shots of her staring at Rhaenyra and her council from a distance give me the creeps. No one should trust her.”

Another Reddit user commented: “I agree, though I think she’s genuinely trying to help her so far. Mysaria, from what she’s said, will always be loyal to herself first. Right now, Rhaenyra’s interests align with hers, but things can change. That said, Rhaenyra doesn’t have many allies who actually listen to her, especially women, and with Rhaeny gone, it makes sense that she’d turn to Mysaria.”

Will Mysaria betray Rhaenyra in ‘House of the Dragon’?

In ‘Fire and Blood’, Mysaria does not betray Rhaenyra and in fact she becomes a very important ally to the queen when Rhaenyra takes over King’s Landing. Rhaenyra trusts her completely and she repays the trust by bringing all the information from King’s Landing to the queen, including the information about her husband Daemon Targaryen’s (Matt Smith) affair with a character named Nettles.

The ones who betray Rhaenyra in the show are Hugh Hammer (Kieran Bew) and Ulf (Tom Bennett). Both characters become dragon riders and later in the show turn against the queen.

Mysaria remains loyal to the end, even giving her life for Rhaenyra when King’s Landing suffers from a riot. She helps Rhaenyra escape while she dies, punished by the small people of King’s Landing.
