Borussia Dortmund suffer humiliating 4-0 defeat to Thai club BG Pathum United

Borussia Dortmund suffered a painful 4-0 defeat to Thai side BG Pathum United in their second friendly match under new head coach Nuri Sahin.

Sahin took charge after Edin Terzic stepped down following BVB’s Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid last month.

His first match as national coach was a 1-1 draw against German third division side Erzgebirge Aue on Wednesday, after which Dortmund toured Asia in preparation for the season.

On Sunday they played in Thanyaburi against BG Pathum United, who finished fourth in the Thai League 1 last season. A team featuring players such as Karim Adeyemi, Youssoufa Moukoko, Julian Brandt and Niklas Sule were defeated 4-0.

After the loss, former midfielder Sahin told reporters: “Of course it is a heavy defeat, but I know how to classify it. Still, we cannot lose 4-0.

“If you get the basics wrong in terms of your defence, then it can happen, even against a Thai team. I know the boys are tired, but that can’t be an excuse at this level.

“As for the defense, I didn’t like it at all today. That’s what we need to talk about. The base has nothing to do with heavy legs. The base has to be good.”
