Weekend highlights of the stock car racing programs in the region

WATERTOWN — A rainstorm that hit Watertown mid-afternoon threw a spanner in the works for Sunday night’s scheduled racing program at Casino Speedway.

All six regular class cars will participate in a special Toys for Tots program on Sunday, July 28 at 6:30 p.m.

Brown County Speedway

ABERDEEN — Josh Skorczewski of Aberdeen and Justin Vogel of Brooten, Minn., both won a prize during the Dacotah Bank Rumble on Friday night.

The second night of the event on Saturday was overshadowed by rain. Friday saw 38 street models and 37 late models on the program.

Skorczewski won the 30-lap Late Model race and Vogel won the 25-lap Street Stock race.

A regular racing program is scheduled for Friday at 7:00 PM.

Madison Speedway

MADISON, Minn. — Ortonville, Minn., drivers Derek Rieck and Joe Arndt both won important races Saturday night.

Rieck took the modified Midwest bridle and Arndt the pure stock bridle.

Winners of the regional heats included Josh Long of Canby, Minn. (street cars); Minnesota drivers Shane Dejong of Boyd and Scott Tofte of Madison (Midwest modified cars); and South Dakota drivers Tony Konold of Clear Lake and Dylan Zabel of Selby (modified cars).

The Timmy Ims Midwest Modified Special is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m.

Fiesta City Speedway

MONTEVIDEO, Minn. — Aberdeen’s Mike Stearns won the modified film during the Timmy Ims Midwest Modified Special on Friday night.

The event saw 38 Midwest Modifieds enter, including Watertown’s Mike Nichols, who took home the B award.

Drivers from the region who won the heats were Joe Arndt of Ortonville, Minn. (pure stocks), Trevor Nelson of Warner (super stocks) and Adam VanDerostyne of Canby, Minn. (hornets).
