Copperheads open FCBL playoffs with 10-0 win

Carmichaels had 12 hits in a 10-0 win over the visiting WBAC in the opening game of the best-of-3 semifinals of the Fayette County Baseball League on Sunday.

The Copperheads broke open the game with four runs in the fifth inning. Alex Vansickle drove in two runs with a single. Forrest Havanis drove in a run and Gavin Pratt scored on a passed ball.

Carmichaels took an early lead on a sacrifice fly by Noah Mildren in the first inning.

The lead grew to 2-0 on AJ Vanata’s ground out in the bottom of the third inning. Vansickle hit a solo homerun in the fourth inning.

The Copperheads took advantage of the mercy rule in the sixth inning when Mildren hit an RBI single and Havanis connected for a bases-loaded single.

Gianni Cantini went all game for the win, giving up six hits, walking one and striking out eight.

Carmichaels’ Drake Long was 3-for-3. Jimmy Sadler had a pair of hits and scored three runs. Eight players had at least one hit for Carmichaels.

Trevor Stewart had a pair of singles for WBAC. Colby Simmons, Donovan von Fradenburgh, Hunter Pelehac and Jerimiah Shrum all had one single in the loss.
