City of Williams Lake activates EOC after wildfires break out Sunday night – BC News

Forest fire now 10 hectares

UPDATE: 7:22 PM

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the size of a wildfire raging in Williams Lake is now estimated at 10 hectares.

The fire was discovered just before 6 p.m. in River Valley.

Houses are said to be on fire and black smoke can be seen.

No official evacuations have been announced.

BCWS has a helicopter on scene and the Williams Lake Fire Department is providing assistance.

Castanet has requested more information from the Cariboo Fire Centre.

A wildfire broke out in Williams Lake on Sunday evening.

According to BCWS, the fire is raging in the River Valley Park Trails.

BCWS and Williams Lake Fire Department are reportedly on scene.

“The City of Williams Lake is aware of fire activity that began late this afternoon in the River Valley. The City is mobilizing to activate its Emergency Operations Center to Level 1 to assist with fire suppression. Firefighters are on scene,” the city said on Twitter.

A helicopter keeps an eye on the fire.

According to BCWS, the fire is less than one hectare in size.
